Construction season kicks off in Jucu de Sus

Fuller Center team

The year 2024 is off to a strong start thanks to the work of two local teams in February and March, followed at the beginning of April by our first Global Builders of the year.

Kim, Beth, Bo, Jill, Susan, Brent, David started off the week with masonry work – assembling wall frames to be raised later in the year when foundations of duplex 12 will be poured, and proving they can safely handle equipment such as the very popular table saw.

These wall they put together this week will be the future home of two new families, to be selected in 2025 based on the Fuller Center for Housing’s criteria of helping God’s people in need – working, low-income families, from vulnerable groups, who never owned a home and today lack adequate shelter. Where we built in Cluj, Romania’s most expensive real estate market, the contribution of Global Builders is truly felt by the families who have the chance of home ownership for the first time in their lives.

Kim’s team also helped us with laying the ground around our workshop, storing supplies and many small jobs that can ensure a great start to an effective construction season. And in our still-under-construction workshop, the team helped with finishing work on the inside and out, from plastering to installing plywood.

The team worked alongside some of the families already selected in our program and doing sweat equity hours, as well as families currently hoping to be selected and volunteering to help others. Another proof that a worksite is a great place to build not just walls, but also connections to people from different places and backgrounds.
