Our worksite welcomes volunteers with all degrees of experience – but when we get a team with lots of on-the-ground experience, that becomes visible since the foreman assigns the day’s jobs.
From day one to the very last, the team led by M.B. Yantz showed dedication and enthusiasm, adapting effortlessly to every situation—and proving that a group of dedicated volunteers can get the job done just as well as a team of professionals.
This time, the team’s journey kicked off with an exploration of Salina Turda, one of Romania’s most visited attractions. The Banffy Castle in Bonțida was also on the list, but only after the team completed major milestones – installing OSB panels on the wall frames for duplex 12, setting up insulation, and leveling the ground around the house. Volunteers also helped winter-proof the progress made so far, and with finishing work needed in the community workshop.
On the final workday, the Yantz team met the Varga family, the newest members of the community. It was also the day when families currently in the selection process joined the US volunteers on-site!
We had the privilege of working alongside volunteers with incredible experiences—some had participated in 11 builds across 11 different countries, while others were stepping onto a construction site for the first time at over 70 years of age.
Some of the volunteers work in universities, corporations, or tech startups, while others are retirees from the first generations of public relations professionals. This kind of diversity creates a unique environment where younger volunteers and seasoned experts can learn from each other. With the right mindset, this is the kind of place where lifelong friendships are made.
