Facing the cold front with #TeamTogether

Trip leader Duane Hershberger returned to Romania less than a year after his previous build, for a week spent on the work site alongside partner-families and volunteers from the local community.

The “international year” kicked off in Jucu with a special event: our first team of Global Builders of the year worked alongside Romanian volunteers each day, getting to meet the local people who decide to get involved and the families who will live among the walls now being raised.

Romanian and American volunteers worked as one team – that we called #TeamTogether – all while facing the worst cold front of the year, with temperatures below freezing at night and barely in the thirties or low forties during the day. They met the Gavris and Csete families, who will live in the duplex now being raised, as well as families now undergoing the selection process for new homes. Cami Bica, already a homeowner in Jucu, came to help the new neighbors – and the friends from oversees.

#TeamTogether raised the walls for the one-bedroom apartment in duplex 12, where Deni and Nati Gavris will live, hopefully, starting next year. The family worked, but also took a photo in front of their new home – and little Noah, 1 year old, got to play in “his room” for the first time.
