Britta Sofia Community: a home for 100+ families
Already, 18 families are home here for the first time in their lives. And there’s space for more than 100 total.
Next to Cluj-Napoca, Romania’s most expensive real estate market, we’re building our largest social housing project yet: the “Britta Sofia” Community in Jucu de Sus. Wooden frame homes with solid concrete foundations and solid insulation have been designed so they can “grow with the family” and provide a decent standard of living at an affordable cost.

In the first homes of the on-profit housing „Britta Sofia” community, 18 families have already moved in and are living the joy of homeownership. Duplexes 9 to 11, currently approaching the end of their construction, will be finished this year, so that 4 more families will move in by the end of 2025.
There is enough land here that this can become the largest non-profit social housing community anywhere in Transylvania – with your support at this key moment in time.
25+ years of homebuilding
The housing program in Cluj has existed since 1999, and since 2017 worked indepedently as “PRIMA DATĂ ACASĂ”.
In 2022, we became a Covenant Partner of the Fuller Center for Housing. For 25 years, with help with volunteers from across the globe, we’ve build 7 communities with 100 new homes, all while helping more than 300 other families with renovations and home improvement programs.

Here’s the plan
What we’ve built so far is a drop in the ocean compared to the huge housing need in Cluj. On more than 7 hectares of land leased by the Jucu City Hall, we’ve drawn up plans to build more than 100 simple homes that offer a decent standard of living, in our largest project yet.
Finished in 2024, the urban planning documents include spaces for:
- 41 new duplex homes
- 12 individual homes for very large families
- 5 dedicated spaces for community gardens and an orchard with fruit-bearing trees
- a playground for children
