Build a better future for families in need

Today, Romania is in an affordable housing crisis.

45% of us live in overcrowding, 21% homes don’t have adequate plumbing, and 10% of homes have leaking roofs, humidity or mold. From 2010 to 2020, prices of new homes went up 49%. The European average was 17%.

This is your day to join the Fuller Center for Housing – a global, faith-driven ministry that works to provide adequate shelter for all people in need worldwide. Next to the city of Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania, we’re building the “Britta Sofia” non-profit housing communities, where 16 families already live and we have space for another 100!

How does it work?

To volunteer with us in Romania, you’ll need to join an incoming team listed on the Fuller Center website. You don’t have to be in the United States or come from there – people from all over the world are welcome to join!

Volunteers typically come for 7 or 10 days and work 5 to 7 days on our build site, with the weekend dedicated to visiting Transylvania’s many attractions & activities, from its famous castles to boat rides in underground lakes.

It’s a win-win: you’ll experience the best of Cluj, while making a contribution to solving the community’s most pressing issue, affordable housing.

Volunteer and you’ll change lives. Even yours!

Make a real impact while making real friends and enjoying a safe, rewarding trip

Anyone can volunteer

No experienced needed: everything is done safely, under supervision and using protective gear. Age is no obstacle: over the past two years, we’ve had volunteers aged 17 to 87!

Ideal for first-timers

Feel safe while you help. Cluj has safe streets, excellent public transport, restaurants & night life – so you can have a safe first experience while making a real impact on a real estate market so expensive it’s leaving thousands unhoused.

Meet like-minded people

We’ve seen it happen. It’s a great feeling when people come in as fellow volunteers and leave as lifelong friends. Working together as a team

Feel the joy of helping

It truly is transformative. Using your hands to worship through service for those in need, putting faith into action and seeing the house come up, receiving news that the family moved in after you’re back home – that’s what it’s all about.

We are here for families without a home

Turning fear of tomorrow into gratitude for a new start in life

Families in inadequate housing

None of our partner-families have ever owned a home. We’ve met families who lived in overcrowding, who used to sleep on park benches or made a garage their family home for years, out of dire necessity. We’ve met, and now their lives are changing.

Hard-working people

All of our families work – at least one parent needs to have a job as a prerequisite to qualify. Families also work on the construction of their homes and for other homes in the community, putting in hundreds of “sweat equity” hours. By the end, they’ll know it’s their effort that made the difference.

Low-income families

We help families that banks won’t look at. People who, like any of us, would do anything for their children, go to work daily but have to live with the fear that nothing they’ll ever do is enough. We turn that fear into a distant memory and empower families to break the circle of poverty with dignity. And a bit of help from people like you 🙂

A proven track record

Serving God’s people in need since 1999

The team in Cluj has operated the non-profit housing program for more than a quarter of a century – since May 13, 1999. We’ve built six social housing communities for more than 100 families, and we’ve got room for 100 more in our newest project, the “Britta Sofia” community in Jucu de Sus, next to the city of Cluj-Napoca, Romania’s most expensive real estate market.

Thousands of volunteers from all over the world have put their trust in us and volunteered here in Cluj.

We believe it should be easy to help, and work to provide the best work & cultural experience for every local and international team.

Meet our Ambassadors

The people who went above & beyond in their contributions to our cause

Peter Sexton

Affectionately called “Captain Pete”, mr. Sexton has shown great faith in our housing program, working to fulfill our partnership with the Fuller Center for Housing due to his wish to return and build in Romania. It’s thanks to Mr. Sexton that today we are once again part of a global team with a common faith and vision.

I’ve been to Cluj five times and I plan on coming back – it’s different there. Part of the EU, a fine community with excellent history & one of the oldest universities in Europe, it’s multicultural and overall a wonderful place. But you also get to meet the families the Fuller Center helps, and you understand how much poverty there is, and what an impact you’re making!

Staci Summers

Since her first trip to Romania in 2023, Staci asked how she could contribute outside the build, and keeps working with us on one of our biggest fundraisers ever. She has returned to Romania in 2024 and has already scheduled a trip for 2025, so here’s your chance to join her! Through her willingness to help, Staci gave us the confidence that faith can indeed move mountains.

In more than 20 years of leading international volunteer teams, Cluj is the only place I’ve returned to. The staff and board members that we met are exceptional, and we loved being with them every day. I’ll be back in 2025 as well, and hope to meet you there!
